: Sorry to burst your bubble....but,you need to be comparing the USA to western Europe and not to central and eastern Europe. The communism brought to those regions by the Soviets were brought by force, by bayonet. The people of these nations did not choose it......it was against their nature. Soviet communism was a failure from the outset. Social justice and so-called social-democracy as practiced in western Europe and now in the former east bloc nations is not bad.

Hmmm...perhaps your comment about Russia might be modified by the historical fact that capitalism was not what the Russian people suffered under before 1917 but rather an oligarchy dominated by serfdom as a holdover from feudal days. Russia lags the rest of Europe in that regard. There were capitalist aspects of Russian culture but the Russians slipped seamlessly from one totalitarian regime to another. If China will remove communism, it will be done by the middle class in China.

I agree in this sense. Ever since Nixon it has been the GOP goal to destroy the middle class which empower progressive movements and demanded various regulatory laws and agencies which restricted the capitalists full control of American society. Therefore we have the "FREE" trade movement which encourages the flow of goods into America manufactured under the conditions and regimes that the capitalist support. WalMart products made in Communist Red China, Macs made in the third world.

As I recall the people of Russia suffered all the bad that van come with capitalism, and saw few reward for a long time. Reagan ignored that, I suspect because that situation was in the interests of capitalists in the US. Like wise I suspect GHWB policy towards Tienanmen Square policy was in favor of US capitalists.

I never will be a fan of Reagan, a the leader of US citizens he wasn't supportive of US labor & the deregulatory climate he created cause hardship as that deregulation create sever economic failures since he left office. I do like seeing him giving created to the people who precipitated the downfall of the USSR without firing a shot.
